Now, there are a lot of players out there who won’t need this guide. These players are those that don’t care about the meta nor about efficiency. These players will use all their resin to boost and build characters that they like, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. However, in a game with limited resources – it only makes sense that other players want to use those resources as efficiently as possible and this is what the guide will be about. So, without further ado – let’s get into it.

Of course, those who use Honkai Star Rail top up services don’t really need this guide as they will have much more resin than F2P gamers and won’t have to “spend wisely” to be effective!

Build the best Honkai Star Rail team first

First things first, you will need a “Main” team to play for most of the content, including stuff like Simulated Universe. Despite most end-game content (Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction, etc.) needing two teams, we’ll focus on the first team for clearing the story and side content other than those modes.

Level/Ascension Honkai Star Rail

You should level up your main Honkai Star Rail team at LEAST to 70, and then ascend them to Ascenscion Phase 6 in order to unlock the most advanced traces that some characters need to really thrive (Acheron DMG more than doubles with her Honkai Star Rail Ascension 6 Trace).

You don’t HAVE to spend your Exp Books for level 80 unless you really want to max them out, and it is somewhat of a waste to spend so many books on 10 levels that won’t give you that big of a boost.

Focus on Traces

You should start with a focus on Traces. Look up guides for what your best Honkai Star Rail team needs and what characters need which traces to really thrive.

For example, Honkai Star Rail Acheron really “only” needs her Ultimate to be at a high level, but leveling up her Skill and Talent can be a boon – however, it will only marginally increase her overall damage done. BUT, her “Stat Increase” traces stack up to quite large numbers and they all increase her damage – ATK%, Lightning DMG%, Crit DMG%.

Other characters, like Aventurine Honkai Star Rail, only really need their skill to thrive – but again, need their “Stat Traces” leveled up because Honkai Star Rail Aventurine scales with DEF and he gets 35% DEF through his unlockable traces. In the example in the picture above, Aventurine Honkai Star Rail only gains a minimal amount of Shield power with his 9th and 10th Trace Levels, yet requires 8 and then 14 of a rare Material that you need to spend a lot of Trailblaze Power for.

All of this is to say, again, that looking up what your characters need and focusing on it first is a good idea.

However, don’t fall into the trap of leveling Ultimate/Skill/Talent traces to level 10. It is FAR too costly on your Resin and isn’t worth it. Level these up to 7 or 8, and then focus on other characters and things you might eventually need which we’ll talk about down below

Of course, you can always buy honkai star rail account to already have all the leveled characters you want!

Relic/Planar Ornament Grind

Now that we have traces leveled up, we’re gonna focus on Relics and Planar Ornaments.

The good thing is that for most of the main game content, we don’t need to go overboard. Focus on having some main stats correct for the characters in your Honkai Star Rail team. To give an example through Acheron Honkai Star Rail again:

  • Head – Try to get Crit Rate/DMG substat – but don’t fret if you don’t have it
  • Hands – Again, if you can – get Crit Rate/DMG or ATK%
  • Body – Try to get Crit Rate/Crit DMG as your main stat, preferably Crit RATE
  • Boots – ATK% Mainstat or SPD
  • Sphere – ATK% or Lightning DMG as mainstat
  • Rope – ATK% mainstat

Now, if you don’t have all of these – it won’t matter TOO much but try to get at least some of them with your preferred mainstat and at rank 15. This will be a HUGE game-changer.

Lightcones

Now, this should go without saying – but level up your Lightcones to level 70/80. Get at least the best 4* options for your main Honkai Star Rail team and level them up/Superimpose them if you can. This will make a huge difference in damage/utility/tankiness.

Build your Secondary Honkai Star Rail Team

Now that we have the main Honkai Star Rail team out of the way, you can focus on building your secondary team by using everything we discussed above. Same principles for leveling traces, relics, etc – you don’t have to over-invest yet as for the initial end-game trials that you will be facing, you don’t need more than what was mentioned above.

Conclusion

As you can see, leveling up your main and secondary best Honkai Star Rail team to a certain point is really cost-effective, after which just becomes what you want to invest into first – Relics? Character Levels? Traces? New characters/teams? It all depends on your personal preference. This game gives you enough resources to beat every type of content with low-to-mid investment, even as a F2P. However, if you really want to – you can always use the best Honkai Star Rail shop to get what you want, be it cheap top-up, accounts, or other services.
